I am 15 minutes into the movie when I realize that Nolan
must hit the top gear now. I have never seen a slower build-up (here slower
does not mean bad) in a Nolan film (except in FOLLOWING). I know Nolan will up
the ante, but I am afraid he might have taken a few minutes too many. Right
when I am pondering all this - enters the Indian surveillance drone and a fun
chase scene is on, Hans Zimmer zooms up with some feely background score that
gives you Goose bumps and I am on the edge of my seat. I am on the edge of my
seat within 15 minutes and I am still there after 170 minutes (movie runtime). Interstellar
exhausts you with heart melting emotions, anticipation and excitement. Breathless
stuff.
The visuals you are going to witness in this movie are
nothing like anything. When you consider the fact that Nolan does not use green
screen for special effects, you will wonder how he managed to stun us with such
jaw-dropping visuals. The exoplanets, blackholes and the spacecrafts shown in
the movie are out of this world as they should be. But the movie is not about
the visuals, there is much more to it.
The movie is about love and longing between a father and a
daughter, ambition of a dying species, hope for a civilization, fear of failing
and discovery of a lifetime. The movie is about the fact that we humans are
still pioneers and our destiny lies above us, our destiny lies in between the stars,
Interstellar. It is about faith and optimism, believing that we will find a
way and we always have. It is an epic voyage where humans must defy all odds to
survive.
I have seen 2001: A space odyssey and I love it. But with
all the respect in the world to Stanley Kubrick and his epic, Interstellar is
the movie of our lifetime. 2001 was pure art of a genius in his own right, but
Interstellar is the art, heart and soul of a genius that Christopher Nolan is.
Interstellar has the potential to be a true game changer for
all of Mankind. It ignites a spark in us which tells us that we must not get
lost out there in trivial issues like racism, border and religion disputes, but
we should realize that we are the real pioneers and our journey has just
started – we have a long way to go, the mankind has a long way to go.
I will conclude the review without any spoilers and by
stating that Interstellar is the grandest spectacle one could watch on a screen.
Just rush to the theatres and when in doubt, trust Nolan.
